Carbon Fiber Applications

The evening included informal networking time and dinner and a presentation about the carbon fiber research program at UTSI with Dr. Ahmad (Adam) Vakili, Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Director Technology Transfer and Economic Development, University of Tennessee Space Institute.  Dr. Vakili will shared his insights related to driving technological innovation in an academic setting.  He will also shared his experience overcoming the hurdles associated with moving technology innovations into the marketplace.

Global demand for high-strength, light-weight and durable carbon fiber is growing rapidly with applications in batteries, fuel cells, fiber reinforced plastics, energy production, building materials, concrete reinforcement, filters, electronics and light weight composites for transportation (automotive).  Learn about UTSI's  research to date as well as potential areas for private sector partnership.
